Well the New Kids (now older boys) are back out with a new album called The Block! Has anyone had the chance to listen to it yet? Well, I got it and let me tell you, it is the best they have ever done in my book. I love it and have been listening to it over and over! It's a great mix of R&B, Dance and Techno music. I don't like rap music, but I do enjoy R&B Dance. They have several guest on the new album including NE-YO, Lady Gaga, The girl thingycast Dolls, New Edition (yes, I said New Edition) and Akon! The only song I don't care for is the one called Grown Man which has the girl thingycat Dolls on it. Their part of the song was good, but the girl thingycats part was annoying. Here is the song's and my review of each.
1. Click, Click, Click - This song reminds me of something that would have been out in the 70's. I get a picture of them in my head on roller skates, skating around a room with disco balls turning. It's a pretty good laid back song.
2. Single - This is one of my favorite. NE-YO is featured on it and sounds great. This is a good slow dance tune. The New Kids sound good on this one. Donnie, Joe and NE-YO are the lead vocals on this song. They really sound awesome together!
3. Big Girl Now - This song features a new artist called Lady Gaga. I had never heard of her before, but on this song she sounds pretty good. This song has a great techno beat to it. It sounds like something Justin Timberlake, Pink and Gwen Stefani would have done together. You can tell Timberland helped with this album! It is a great dance song!
4. Summertime - This is the closest thing to their original sound. This is a pretty good song. Very catchy and it's a sing along kind of song. Good beach party type feel to it.
5. 2 In the Morning - Very adult kind of song. Reminds me of a song Usher would do. Kind of a sexy sounding. I love the way their voices have that synthesized sound to it.
6. Grown Man - Like I said I don't care for this one. It's Ok, but it gets annoying to me after about a minute into it. They repeat the same thing over and over and the music gets on my nerves. It's not a very long song, so that's good.
7. Dirty Dancing - Love this one. It is a great dance song, with lots of techno sounds and interesting vocal effects! I don't know if you girls like the R&B dance sound, but this is right up that alley. You can tell that Timberland's music style was a big influence on this album. I love the line in the song " Oh you so crazy, she's like baby, I'm like Swayze" as you can tell it's a reference to the dirty dancing movie. It's so cute.
8. Sexify My Love - Another favorite song of mine. Good dance song. I can hear Westlife doing this one. It's basic, but still good.
9. Twisted - Another dance song. Not as good as the other ones on the album, but still good to dance along with. They repeat the word Twisted a little to much for me. It's one of those songs that sounds like it was thrown together at the last minute, but still good to listen to.
10. Full Service - Another favorite of mine. New Edition was featured on it and they sound great on it. Another great dance song, that has a great R&B dance beat to it. New Edition and The New Kids sound great together, hopefully they can tour together. That would be a great concert to see.
11. Lights, Camera, Action - A bit Britney Spears sounding. I can't remember which song of hers this reminds me of, but it has that breathing sound like one of her songs has in it. It's a slow sexy dance kind of song.
12. Put It On My Tab - I love this one, because I really like the way Akon always adds something to the songs he guest on. He has a very sexy Jamaican sounding voice. It's a simple song, but just sounds so good.
13. Stare At You - Another song that Westlife would sound good singing. Very slow and soft sounding. Not the best song on the album, but can still enjoy it. I could hear the group 98 degrees doing this one too. It's a good song, even though it's not got that hit single sound to it. Westlife could re-due it and give it that hit single sound.
Anyway, that is my thoughts on the songs. If you loved The New Kids back in the day, give them a chance again. They have really grown up and sound better than ever. Donnie, Joe and Jordan are still the main singers, but without Danny and Jonathan, it wouldn't be The New Kids!
